Memorial Day Movies

There is nothing in the world that Black people love more than an extended weekend. An extra day away from work where we can drink, eat, and spend it with the people we rock with the most. Extended weekends are also the time where we can catch up on our favorite shows and rreminsice on movies that we have seen a thousand times. Before you head out for your cookout, or if you choose to stay at the crib, we made a lis of our favorite movies that feature cookouts and spending time with the community.

1. Boyz N The Hood

Boyz N The Hood is the 1991 directorial debut of the late, great John Singleton. In this clip, Doughboy, played by Ice Cube, is released from jail and his mother, played by Tyra Farell, threw him a party with all of his closest friends.

2. Poetic Justice

Poetic Justice is another John Singleton classic. In this scene, Lucky, Justice, Chicago, and Iesha infiltrate a family barbecue. But in true Black people fashion, if you say you're my cousin, nine times out of ten, I'm going to believe it, and invite you to the cookout.

3. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins

This 2008 cultural classic features a lot of comedic heavy hitters including Martin Lawrence, Mike Epps, Mo'Nique, and Cedric The Entertainer.

4. Menace II Society

The cast and crew of Menace II Society just celebrated the 26th anniversary of their iconic film. What better way to celebrate them than to watch their movie in celebration.

5. Johnson Family Vacation

There is nothing that will irritate a Black family more than a long prayer. In Johnson Family Vacation, Cedric The Entertainer and Steve Harvey battle it out to see who is the most sanctified.

6. Don't Be A Menace To Society While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood

The Wayans' family are the original trolls of cinema. In Don't Be A Menace..., 1996, they spoof Boyz N The Hood, Menace II Society, South Central, Friday, and multiple hood classics of their time. In this scene, they encompass those films in the form of parody.

7. Bad Boys II

What a better way to celebrate escaping a tragic ending via multiple shootouts than by kicking it with your best friend and family overlooking the water in South Beach.

8. Barbershop 2

Nothing better than a classic roasting session between Gina, played by Queen Latifah and Eddie, played by Cedric The Entertainer. In this 2004 scene of Barbershop 2, they roast each other in front of the whole barber and beauty shop.
