Rapper, Producer, And Digital Underground Co-Founder, Shock G, Passes Away

Legendary hip hop founder, Shock G, has passed away. Shock G, born Gregory Edwards, was the leader of the Bay Area hip hop collective, Digital Underground.

As the founder of Digital Underground, Shock G played many positions, including being a producer, songwriter, and rapper. As a part of the collective, Shock G was able to release the ever popular single, “The Humpty Dance” off of the 1990 debut album, Sex Packets. “The Humpty Dance” catapulted Shock G and Digital Underground to global stardom, with Shock G leading the way as the infamous character Humpty Hump. Digital Underground was very popular, being featured on shows such as The Arsenio Hall Show, Showtime At The Apollo, and Yo! MTV Raps.

Shock G was also interested in acting, as he appeared in the 1991 comedy-horror film, Nothing But Trouble.

Shock G was also instrumental in the early career of Tupac Shakur. In 1991, Shakur started out as a background dancer on tour with Digital Underground. By 1993, Tupac stepped into his role as a bonafide rap star, and Shock G was the one who produced his breakout single, “I Get Around". The song in which Shock G also had a verse on, went platinum, and renewed a career long relationship the duo had.

Many of Hollywood’s celebrities showed outpours of love and support including artists such as Ice Cube, Mariah Carey, and Viola Davis.

Rest In Peace to Shock G.
