Now, if you ask anybody to name a black CLASSIC film, the first one that will come to their mind is - LOVE AND BASKETBALL. Every single line you can say verbatim and Monica and Quincy will forever go down as the couple we all want to be, (you know, minus moving half way across the country, having my man fall in love with Tyra Banks etc).
But just like the dialogue, what stands out the most in the movie, THE SOUNDTRACK. Every scene matches perfectly with every song that we hear. How can we forgot the soothing voice of Maxwell as Monica loses her virginity to Quincy? The rocky rap of MC Lyte as we see older Monica play basketball for the first time? Or, New Edition's infamous Candy Girl when Q & Mon first meet? EVERY. SINGLE. SONG. CAPTIVATED. THE. SCENE. The music supervisor did a fantastic job. Like the movie, each song is notorious.
The Love and Basketball soundtrack was released on April 18, 2000 and is 1 hour and 4 minutes of pure bliss.I made an Apple Music Playlist (minus, Complete Beloved, Holding Back The Years, and Our Destiny) - Love and Basketball Soundtrack.
Gina Prince-Bythewood's stellar directorial debut was followed up by some even more amazing music.
